Breon Arzell named this season’s AFYT Lead Teaching Artist
About Face Youth Theatre (AFYT) is thrilled to welcome multi-disciplinary artist Breon Arzell as this season’s lead teaching artist. An actor, choreographer, director, and writer, Breon came to Chicago in 2013 after performing and teaching overseas for six years. With a career spanning 22 years (and counting), his talents have allowed him to perform all across the U.S., Canada, Italy, Germany, Denmark, London, and Singapore, developing his own style of movement and storytelling (a fusion of Hip Hop, Modern, Jazz, and Contemporary). He has taught/choreographed at LaShelle’s School of Dance, Senn High School, Walter Payton College Prep, Agassiz Elementary, Northwestern, DePaul, Goodman Theatre, and all across the Chicago storefront and equity theater community. A Detroit native and Miami University graduate, Breon is constantly striving to deliver love and light into this world.
“Our first workshop this past Saturday focused on the ensemble developing their voice, who they are, and their relationship with art making. Transparency and communication is key to me,” Breon said. “I start every class by showing this clip of Nina Simon talking about an artist’s duty. I believe it is at the core of how we should approach performance.”
