In a city by the river, society divides along the lines of imperfect DNA, trashy bestsellers and downloadable babies. Macy O. Blonsky, author of “the last print published novel ever,” must decide how far she will go to bring her creation to the world. The Sara Lee Foundation is the exclusive corporate sponsor of What Once We Felt.

xyz headliner: THE FLOWERS
By Adam Bock, Directed by Trip Cullman
October 16 – November 7
Thurs – Sun, 7:30pm, plus Monday, Nov 2 at 7:30pm
Stage Left Theatre, 3408 N. Sheffield
$20 Tickets
Obie Award-winning playwright Adam Bock returns to Chicago with this witty love letter to the theatre. The gay couple that runs The Flowers acting troupe is as star-crossed as the forty-year-old actors they have playing Romeo and Juliet. For one of them, the world has become too small. The other can’t imagine another life. Wry and real, this is a play about parting’s sweet sorrow.
FLOAT
By Patricia Kane; Directed by Jessica Thebus
October 2 & 3, 7:30pm
The Wild Pug, 4810 N. Broadway
$10 Tickets
Director Jessica Thebus and playwright Patricia Kane, who brought us the smash-hit Pulp, now give us a glimpse of small-town life and the group of women building a float for a winter parade.
LET THEM EAT CAKE
Created by Holly Hughes & Megan Carney
October 30 – November 1, 7:30pm
XYZ Festival Headquarters, 4707 N. Broadway
$15 Tickets
Legendary performance artist Holly Hughes collaborates with AFT Artistic Associate Megan Carney on this high-energy, interactive exploration of weddings and gay marriage. Marriage Equality is on the front burner for the LGBT community. Everyone’s got an opinion and maybe more than one. The debate amongst people of the rainbow is almost as heated and divisive as that which is unfolding on the national political scene. Is marriage good for the gays? Are gays good for marriage? Is it a step forward, backward, sideways or all of the above, set to a disco beat?

Here, Eliza Doolittle is a young aspiring drag queen with everything to learn and Henry Higgins is the queen who takes young Eliza under her wing. “England” is not the country but rather the biggest most glamorous drag club in town.
