Welcome homo for the holidays!  About Face Theatre presents a rootin’ tootin’ retellin’ of your old favorite western musical. Lady Aunt Eller hosts this tale of gay love triangles in the pioneer days.  Full of flair and with a hint of winter, this is the range like you’ve never seen it before.

what once we felt
February 3 – March 7

This long anticipated production is a futuristic thriller that will have its premiere at Lincoln Center this fall.  In a city by the river, society divides along the lines of imperfect DNA, trashy bestsellers and downloadable babies.  Macy O. Blonsky, author of “the last print published novel ever,” must decide how far she will go to bring her creation into the world.  The Sara Lee Foundation is the exclusive corporate sponsor of What Once We Felt.

sweet tea: black gay men of the southmen
April 29 – May 23

Dynamic performer and author E. Patrick Johnson seamlessly inhabits the many interviewees who comprise this fascinating oral history of black, gay southern life.  The acclaimed book is brought to life in a co-production with Jane M. Saks and the Ellen Stone Belic Institute for the Study of Women and Gender in the Arts and Media, Columbia College Chicago, where Johnson has developed this project as an ESB Institute Fellow.

queertopia
July 2010

This oral history project portrays true stories of violence, discrimination and exclusion of LGBTQ young people in Chicago Public Schools, balanced with tales of peaceful advances by queer and allied youth.  Queertopia is made possible with the support of its community partners: The Goodman Theatre, Howard Brown, Genderjust, Illinois Safe Schools Alliance and the Center on Halsted.  If you have a story you would like to donate to the creation of this new Youth Theatre script, please contact us at queertopia@aboutfacetheatre.com.
