About Face Theatre announced a three-play slate for its 2016-17 season on Friday.
First up is Doug Wright’s “I Am My Own Wife” (Nov. 4-Dec. 10), the Pulitzer Prize-winning play first developed at AFT in 2003. Artistic director Andrew Volkoff will helm the new take on the true story of Charlotte von Mahlsdorf, born Lothar Berfelde, who hid from the Nazi regime in plain sight. The production will feature transgender actress Delia Kropp and two additional actors, in a twist on the traditionally one-person play.
Another historical piece follows with “The Temperamentals” (Jan. 13-Feb. 18) by Jon Marans, about a love story that emerged from the Mattachine Society, one of the first gay rights organizations in the country.
Finishing up the season is Tanya Barfield’s “Bright Half Life” (May 26-July 1), a fragmented retelling of a lesbian relationship. The production, directed by Keira Fromm, will feature Elizabeth Ledo.
AFT has also added William Boles, Bob Kuhn and Mieka Van der Ploeg to the company’s list of artistic associates.
AFT is in residence at Theater Wit, 1229 W. Belmont Ave.
