For Schools

Let’s create brave and inclusive schools!

About Face Youth Theatre has been collaborating with students, teachers, and administrators within Chicago Public Schools, private schools, and everything in between, for the last 20 years.

Our Outreach Program provides engagement with professional artists to bolster art education and help schools meet their goals of promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion. Our events make important connections with students, identify actions for positive change within the school, and invite students into deeper conversation about identity and respect that can have a positive impact on school climate.

The About Face Outreach Tour provides programming to help schools meet the goal set by the Illinois State Board of Education that encourages schools to, “develop, either internally or with the assistance of outside entities, programs aimed at promoting cultural understanding, preventing bullying or harassment, and fostering positive learning environments.” (ISBE 2018).

We also want to highlight the efforts of Chicago Public School’s Office of Student Health and Wellness and their Supporting Gender Diversity Toolkit as a resource to support the CPS Guidelines Regarding the Support of Transgender and Gender Nonconforming Students. About Face Theatre applauds this resource and encourages its use. Our touring show provides an active example of many of the terms and concepts raised by the toolkit for both educators and students alike. By bringing the issues to life through stories based on real life experiences, we can enhance learning for students and teachers from middle school, high school, and college.
