About Face Theatre is seeking graduate students, experienced undergraduates or recent grads to assist Artistic Director, Bonnie Metzgar in artistic planning and literary activities. Candidates should have a strong interest in producing and developing new theater works or in literary management. Literary interns read and track incoming scripts and correspond with playwrights.

The Education Intern will be directly involved in the programmatic development of the About Face Youth Theatre. Responsibilities include assisting in teaching weekly workshops and producing the monthly open mic series. Interns will also be involved in the development of the script for the next AFYT production.

The Production intern will be involved in the daily operation of each production, working directly with the Producer, director and designers on the realization of the production plan. This position requires familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel, good communication and phone skills, and a valid drivers license.

Development and Special Events back to top


The Development and Special Events intern will report directly to the Development Director and provide support in all aspects of contributed income development for About Face Theatre.

The Development and Special Events intern’s responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with and planning all fundraising benefits and special events, including collaboration with volunteer committees
  • Retrieving, organizing and researching donor/prospect information
  • Maintaining donor records and database systems, as well as gathering and sorting related data
  • Managing donor acknowledgement and recognition
  • Managing annual fund processes, including direct mail campaigns
  • Supporting corporate and foundation research, proposal submission, and reporting
  • Supporting Development Director with daily operations of the department including donor inquiries and requests, meeting scheduling and preparation, and other duties as assigned

Candidates must possess excellent communication and organizational skills, enjoy a fast-paced environment and be available to work a minimum of 15-20 hours a week. Occasional evening event attendance required. Applicants should also be proficient in Microsoft Office (primarily Word and Excel), and have an interest in pursuing a career in theatre or arts management.

The Management intern reports directly to the Managing Director and assists with all aspects of the management of a mid-sized non-profit theatre company including contracts, finance, meeting preparation, and grant-writing.

The Management intern’s responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with financial systems and management of contracts
  • Organizing and preparing with Executive Director for all Board of Directors meetings and communications
  • Preparing grants and supplemental materials
  • Proofing and editing marketing, development and other institutional materials
  • Assisting with various events geared towards sales, publicity and fundraising

Candidates must possess excellent communication and organizational skills, enjoy a fast-paced environment and be available to work a minimum of 15-20 hours a week. Applicants should also be proficient in Microsoft Office (primarily Word and Excel), and have an interest in pursuing a career in theatre or arts management.

The Marketing Intern works closely with the Marketing Director to assist with the development and execution of a comprehensive marketing plan for upcoming About Face Theatre productions.The Marketing Intern’s specific responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with single ticket campaigns, group sales efforts, special event planning and audience development efforts.
  • Assisting with the development and growth of our social media strategy.
  • Creating and distributing weekly email marketing advertisements.
  • Organizing and maintaining press clippings and marketing material archives.
  • Assisting with the organization and execution of audience development events.
  • Assisting with the creation and distribution of marketing materials.
  • Assisting our publicist with the distribution of press releases.
  • Assisting all with various events geared towards sales, publicity and fundraising.

As an intern at About Face Theatre, you will see your ideas, contributions and projects come to fruition.  Along with the specific marketing responsibilities listed above, interns will also gain intra-departmental experience and knowledge.

Candidates must possess excellent communication and organizational skills, enjoy a fast-paced environment, and have the availability to work a minimum of 20 hours a week. Applicants should also be proficient in Microsoft Office (primarily Word and Excel), and have an interest in pursuing a career in arts marketing and/or theatre management.
